Stage and Screen Icon Dame Joan Plowright Passes Away at 95

Dame Joan Plowright, a celebrated British actress whose illustrious career spanned over six decades, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 95. Renowned for her versatility on stage and screen, she earned critical acclaim, including an Oscar nomination for Enchanted April (1991) and a Tony Award for A Taste of Honey (1960).

The widow of Sir Laurence Olivier, Plowright shared a rich professional and personal partnership with him, co-starring in The Entertainer (1957), where their relationship began. A founding member of the National Theatre, she received numerous accolades, including an Olivier Award in 1978.

Retiring in 2014 due to blindness, Plowright spent her final years in Sussex surrounded by loved ones. A cherished figure among acting greats, she was last seen sharing wit and memories in the 2018 documentary Nothing Like a Dame with Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and Eileen Atkins.
