“US Aligns with Russia in UN Ukraine Resolutions, Signaling Policy Shift”

US Shifts Stance on Ukraine, Aligns with Russia in UN Votes

The US has twice voted alongside Russia at the United Nations on the third anniversary of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, signaling a stark shift under the Trump administration.

In a UN General Assembly vote, the US opposed a European-backed resolution condemning Russia’s actions—joining Russia, North Korea, and Belarus. Separately, at the UN Security Council, Washington drafted a resolution calling for an end to the conflict but omitting any criticism of Moscow. While the resolution passed, key US allies, including the UK and France, abstained.

This shift has deepened transatlantic divisions, with European leaders expressing concerns over America’s commitment to Ukraine and NATO. French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer are holding urgent talks with Trump to address the growing rift.
