“PM Shehbaz to Embark on Cairo Trip for D-8 Summit Participation”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to depart for Cairo today to attend the 11th summit of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, taking place from December 18 to 20. The summit, which focuses on the theme “Investing in Youth, Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy,” aims to foster economic collaboration among eight developing nations: Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, and Turkey.

During the summit, Sharif will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to the D-8’s vision and emphasize the importance of partnerships for mutual prosperity. Key topics for discussion will include food security, agriculture, tourism, and ways to strengthen collaboration among member states. A special session will address humanitarian crises in Gaza and Lebanon, with a focus on reconstruction challenges following Israeli aggression in the region. Sharif is expected to highlight Pakistan’s stance on the Middle East crisis and advocate for peace.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan at the D-8 Council of Ministers meeting on December 18. Sharif’s visit also includes bilateral meetings with other leaders to further Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic ties within the D-8 framework. The D-8, formed in 1997, focuses on promoting economic development and sustainable growth among its members, with this year’s summit emphasizing youth empowerment and the support of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
